Popular Art
This impressive collection of Popular Art (formerly categorized as Folk Art) includes stunning examples of ceramic and wood carved sculptures, textiles, papier-mâché figures, toys, glassware, vessels, lacquerware, ritual objects, and decorated masks.

In the early 1920s, arte popular was recognized as a source of national pride for Mexico and a revived interest to preserve and document these art forms was initiated. As a result, many Mexican artists, such as Diego Rivera and Rosa and Miguel Covarrubias, began to collect popular art for their personal collections.

The Mexican Museum houses several remarkable popular art collections representing both modern and traditional artistic forms. These collections include a portion of the prestigious Nelson A. Rockefeller Collection of Mexican Folk Art, The Rosa and Miguel Covarrubias Collection, the Rex May Collection, and the Paul Sherrill Collection.
