Patssi Valdez: A Precarious Comfort
January 22, 1999 - March 28, 1999

This exhibition was the first major museum survey of artwork by Patssi Valdez, a major photographer, performance artist and painter whose career has spanned over 25 years, beginning with the seminal performance art group ASCO of Los Angeles. Heavily influenced by the urban context of Los Angeles and the shadow of Hollywood, ASCO extended the parameters of Chicano art.

Organized by The Mexican Museum's curator, Tere Romo, the exhibition featured over 50 artworks, including paintings, photographs, prints and mixed-media works on paper that represented Valdez's art production from the early 1970s through the present. The Museum also commissioned a site-specific, multi-media installation entitled, The Little Girl's Room.

Catalogue available in La Tienda.
