The Prodigal Mother | 2008 and earlier
The Prodigal Mother was conceived to make us to conjure both death and the Patriotic; and to spirit us to a land of the Matriotic, that is, to a phase of society empowered by artistic fiction to cancel the atavisms and the obsession of political protagonism by the Father-State (the state of awareness) on one hand, and to offer the gift of dissolving into the bio-social mantle of the Mother (state of unawareness), on the other.
Lezama dreams that Mexico dreams that it sinks into the chiaroscuro of the volcano of its pre-modern, modernizing, and post-modernist urges: only thus will we be able to answer the riddle of existence for the sphinx of history, and dissolve the very fabric of the labyrinth that oppresses us.
La madre pródiga | Hasta 2008
La madre pródiga estaría concebida para hacernos negar a la muerte y a la Patria, trasladándonos al imperio de una Matria, vale decir, a un estadío civil que recibe de la ficción artística, primero el poder de cancelar los atavismos y la obsesión por el protagonismo político del Estado-Padre (vigilia); y luego, el don de fundirse en el manto biosocial de la Madre (sueño).
Lezama sueña que México sueña que se hunde en el claroscuro del volcán de sus pulsiones premodernas, modernizadoras y postmodernistas: sólo así podremos responderle a la esfinge de la historia el acertijo del ser y entonces disolver la trama del laberinto que nos oprime.
Travelers | 2008 - 2012
The tales of the explorers of America and Mexico that provide the subject-matter for Daniel Lezama's tribute canvases in Travelers, are magnified into visual narratives that carry not only the historically documented journeys of these founders of knowledge, but the very visions they crafted, into the realm of confessional allegory.
Viajeros | 2008 - 2012
Los relatos de los exploradores de México y América a quienes Daniel Lezama rinde tributo en Viajeros, se ven magnificados en narraciones visuales que trasladan hacia la alegoría confesional, tanto las aventuras históricamente documentadas que vivieron todos estos fundadores de conocimiento, como las visiones a partir de las cuales produjeron las imágenes que nos legaron.

Germinal | 2013 - 2016
In this cycle, the realm of childhood allegorizes Lezama's attempt to raise a visual monument to a life open to the irrepresible desire for existential reform, and to the quest for ways to reconcile oneself with fantasy.
On one hand, Lezama visualizes the visible garden of his painting as a maze of affirmation, a garden as an architecture of pleniture, a garden as fertile grounds for the multiplicity of the I, a garden as site for the contemplation of a sentient nature animated by biophilic impulses.
On the other, devices are understood and presented as fantasy mechanisms to create meaning, connection and reconcilement of the forces and elements staged in the form of people, plants or animals; a painterly metaphor of the logic of certain technological devices, and their electrical and mechanical components, serving as symbolic equivalences of the physical and spiritual nature of the world.
Germinal | 2013 - 2016
En este ciclo, la esfera de la infancia alegoriza la tentativa de Lezama de levantar un monumento visual a la vida abierta al deseo irrefrenable de una reforma existencial, al hallazgo de las formas de la reconciliación con el ensueño.
Por un lado, Lezama visualiza el jardín visible en su pintura como laberinto de afirmaciones, el jardín como arquitectura de plenitud, el jardín como tierra de cultivo de la multiplicidad del yo, el jardín como el lugar de contemplación de la naturaleza sentimental animada por pulsiones biofílicas.
Por otro, el dispositivo es entendido y representado como mecanismo fantástico de creación de sentido, conexión y reconciliación de las fuerzas y elementos puestos en escena en la forma de hombres, plantas o animales; metáfora pictórica de la lógica de ciertos mecanismos tecnológicos, y de los componentes eléctricos y mecánicos, y su equivalencia simbólica a la naturaleza física y espiritual del mundo.
The Company | 2017 to date
In the legendary 19th Century (an era that Lezama has dwelt upon extensively), Gustave Flaubert woefully predicted that the future would belong to unidimensional individuals besotted by pragmatic efficientism and self-congratulatory entrepreneurship. His brilliant intuition was unfortunately correct. Yet fortunately, Daniel Lezama invents (on the basis of an actual site) a mythical Company dedicated to the transformation of being, and thus becomes one of the symbolic agent that reverses –in the magnificent realm of fiction and in the antipodes of resentment- the effects of this atrocious curse.

En el legendario siglo XIX (muy explorado por Lezama), Gustave Flaubert lamentaba que la sociedad del futuro sería protagonizada por gente unidimensional, enloquecida por el eficientismo pragmático y emprendedora de negocios aspiracionales. Desafortunadamente, su brillante intuición se cumplió. Afortunadamente, Daniel Lezama reinventa (a partir de un sitio real) una mítica Compañía de gestión del ser y es uno de esos agentes simbólicos que revierten, en el reino maravilloso de la ficción y lejos del resentimiento, los efectos de ese horrible estigma.
